May 26, 2020 · The Explorer's pack comes with a backpack and a bunch of stuff that (I assume) goes inside. A Backpack can fit 30lbs in it. But the stuff - a bedroll (7), a mess kit (1), a tinderbox (1), 10 torches (10), 10 days of rations (20), and a waterskin (5) - totals 44lbs.

May 19, 2017 · 10 torches 10 (10 x 1) a Tinderbox - 1. 10 days of Rations - 20 (2 x 10) a Waterskin - 5. 50 feet of Hempen rope - 10 Total: 56.5 minus backpack: 51.5 minus rope: 41.5. If we strap the waterskin to our belt and the torches to the outside, that lowers us to 26.5. Both of these packs come overloaded, unless I'm miscalculating something.

The classes' starting equipment and backgrounds' starting equipment in the PHB don't suffer this problem. Generally speaking, you get some weaponry, armor, a pack, and things related to your class features 1 from your class' starting equipment.

The sack portion rested on the shelf formed by the bottom of the L. Things that couldn't fit inside the sack where attached to the pack or frame as needed.
