May 25, 2013 · Kevin, thanks for taking the time to answer my question. I have lived at my residence for more than 19 years and this is the first time I've seen this happen. Also, when walking around our neighborhood, I am noticing the same immature green pine cones in other's yards. Our trees appear to be healthy.

Every species of pine trees have different growth habits when it comes to cone placement in the tree. Some have male and female cones throughout the canopy.

Dry pine needles can be a fire hazard, and so recommendations might depend a bit on where you are located in Jefferson County. Jul 24, 2022 · Last year I planted a Vanderwolf Pine at our new home and it seemed to do well the first year; however, lower branches pf pine needles began turning yellow from the inside to outer part of the branch. Eventually, only a cluster of green at the tip of the branch. This has slowly worked its way up the tree to the middle section of this younger pine.

Thank you for your question. It is difficult to say for sure what you are referring to without a picture of the fruit (or "cones"), the leaves, and the whole tree. My best guess is that you probably saw an alder, which is a native, deciduous, broadleaf tree that has a cone-like fruit called a strobile.

Mar 4, 2014 · This pine cone was collected about 20 years ago in the Sierras in California. It measures 8" tall by 7" wide. The "thorns" on the cones point upwards and can be quite painful when you hold the pine cone. The bottom of the pine cone is flat. Can you tell me what tree produced this pine cone? Jul 6, 2023 · (I am guessing it is around 30 years old.) This spring, I saw that there were a lot of green pine cones forming in the very top branches. Now, we have had a few bad storms with high winds. We also have had drought-like conditions. I am wondering why so many of the immature pine cones are dropping before they have a chance to develop.
