Dec 22, 2021 · A-Tier (The Best) * Curse of Strahd. Remake of a beloved classic that sticks closely to the original while enhancing it with great locations and characters. Has an obvious flow to it (talk to Mme Eva, find the artifacts, defeat Strahd) without forcing anything. Randomized item locations forces a sandboxy writing style.

While pure sandbox and completely linear games are both fine playstyles, modules should strive to achieve a balance. The most balanced in this sense the better. How linked to a macro setting (Forgotten realms, Eberron, Greyhawk, Kryn, etc.) the module is. The easier it is to place in any setting the better.

Jan 25, 2023 · My top two older modules are L1 Secret of Bonehill and I2 Tomb of the Lizard King. Bonehill is a very sandbox village. It's a great starting town to throw adventures into or add a larger plot hook. Lizard King is a fantastic exploration to dungeon. It has some of the best random encounters I have read.

Jun 9, 2022 · True, but 5e has huge issues with proofreading and scope. There's plenty of great individual chapters embedded in setting/campaign books (i.e. the early town quests of Rime). The boxed sets and adventure anthologies are the easiest for novice GMs and pretty much the only official 5e content that consistently delivers.

Dec 17, 2022 · Honestly I have run a lot of adventures and modules over multiple editions of the game. And I think that Curse of Strahd yes is one of the best. But .. there are other really good modules with the Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen appearing to also make the list.
