Jimmy Carter's Naval Academy classmates share memories
ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Before Jimmy Carter became president of the United States, he was a plebe at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. Some of his classmates -- who are beginning to turn 100 -- are honoring his life and sharing memories of their time together at the academy.
Jimmy Carter’s legacy in Annapolis began at the Naval Academy
Carter persisted, though. When Rosalynn visited Annapolis again that spring, the couple became engaged, and Carter gave her a compact engraved with the letters “ILYTG,” an acronym for a Carter family saying, “I love you the goodest,” according to Biography. The couple was married in July of 1946.
