In January, nine beaches in Sydney, Australia were closed after a bunch of gross little mysterious balls washed up along the coastline. They have poop in them.

Nine beaches in Sydney, including well-known Manly beach, were closed to bathers on Tuesday after small white and grey balls of debris washed up on the shores at the height of the summer holiday season.

The small balls that washed up on several Sydney beaches last week and led to their closure were found to contain dangerous and toxic substances. Analysis showed the balls contained saturated fatty acids, E. coli (ie coliform bacteria) and faecal bacteria. They also contain pumice from volcanic rock.

Sydney’s popular Manly Beach and other beaches around the Australian city were closed on Tuesday as authorities investigated marble-sized balls of white and gray debris that had washed on shore, in the latest such mysterious incident in recent months.

The mysterious balls that forced the closure of several beaches in Sydney last week were found to contain saturated acids, E. coli and faecal bacteria, authorities say. Sydney's Northern Beaches council said it has sent the debris to the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for further analysis.
