The National Endowment for the Arts agreed Friday to remove a certification requirement that forced artists to attest that they will not "promote gender ideology" to secure federal grants.

The ACLU filed a lawsuit on behalf of four arts and theater organizations challenging new gender-ideology restrictions tied to federal NEA grants.

Groups represented by the ACLU are looking to block new National Endowment for the Arts requirements for grant applicants.

The National Endowment for the Arts removed President Donald Trump's "gender ideology" requirements from grant funding applications on Friday, following the ACLU's lawsuit filed just one day prior. Arts organization can now apply for funding without adhering to the president's "anti-woke" eligibility criteria.

The National Endowment for the Arts has agreed to remove a certification requirement that forced artists to attest that they will not “promote gender ideology” in order to apply for funding while the outcome of the case from the American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Rhode Island is pending.

The lawsuit pushes back against a recent executive order from President Donald Trump that asks funding applicants to agree not to promote "gender ideology" in their work.

Trump's anti-trans orders have left artists to "guess what (if anything) they can create, produce, or promote," the lawsuit states.
