Rubio said the United States backed an international security mission in Haiti but wanted a broader solution in the troubled country that included economic stimulus.

The U.S. has notified the United Nations that it is freezing some funding to a U.N.-backed mission in Haiti tasked with fighting gangs trying to seize full control of the country’s capital, the U.N. said Tuesday.

President Donald Trump's freeze on foreign aid includes support for the Kenya-led international mission to Haiti, which seeks to help local troops fight the gangs that have taken over most of the capital and continue to wreak havoc across the country.
