San Diego is expected to get hit by its first major storm of the year this week following the single slowest start to the region's typical "rainy season" in recorded history.

For San Diego County, rainfall is expected to range from 0.75 to 1.25 inch near the coast to 2 to 3 inches in the mountains through Friday.

Those needing sandbags should consider calling ahead to double-check availability and remember to bring a shovel to fill the bags

Wet weather is on its way to San Diego County Tuesday, forecasters said. The National Weather Service reported a 10% to 15% chance of light precipitation on Tuesday as the marine layer deepens from coastal to foothill areas throughout the county.

A new prescribed burn, called Palomar Mountain Piles Wcsl, was initiated 12:10 p.m. Jan. 8 in San Diego County. The prescribed fire has been burning on federal land managed by the United States Forest Service for more than a month.

The storm is expected to bring about 2 inches of rain to northern and southern parts of the county between Wednesday and Friday

Crews with the County of San Diego Public Works were clearing out debris and checking pipes and drains on Tuesday in various parts of the county ahead of this week’s storms.

There is up to a 15% chance of light precipitation on Tuesday as the marine layer deepens from coastal to foothill areas throughout the county, with the heavier rain arriving later in the week, forecasters said.
