One of the latest significant information leaks involves data from PowerSchool, a software provider for thousands of K–12 school districts in the United States and Canada. The incident affected millions of users.

Bleeping Computer on Wednesday also reported that an extortion note the attacker sent to PowerSchool claimed that the personal data of 62.4 million students and 9.5 million teachers was swept up in the breach. PowerSchool said it’s offering two years of free credit monitoring to all those affected.

According to a notice that will be sent to those affected, hackers were able to get access to students' and teachers' contact information, birthdays, Social Security numbers and more.

The school software company was offering two years of complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services for people involved.
