NATO concluded a major anti-drone exercise this week, with Ukraine taking part for the first time as the Western alliance seeks to learn urgently from the rapid development and widespread use of unmanned systems in the war there.

The Bucharest 9 group of countries said there was "profound concern" at Russian drones landing in territories neighboring Ukraine.

In the Netherlands, NATO exercises testing drone defense systems are ongoing from September 10 to 20. For the first time, representatives from Ukraine are participating, according to NATO's press service.

Independent Russian language outlet Verstka said 34 drones had landed in neighboring territory to Russia and Ukraine.

Russia’s plan to add 180,000 troops will increase the risk of accidents like drones and missiles entering NATO territory, the commander of U.S. Air Forces Europe and NATO Allied Air Command told reporters Tuesday.

Two NATO members said Sunday that Russian drones violated their airspace, as one reportedly flew into Romania during nighttime attacks on neighboring Ukraine while another crashed in eastern Latvia the previous day.

Latvia and Romania, NATO members, reported Russian military drones violated their countries' airspace. NATO has said taking military action in such cases, would draw the military alliance into Russia's war against Ukraine.
