Macy’s is closing 66 locations in its “Bold New Chapter” plan to focus on high-performing stores and scale back on underperforming locations.

The closures are part of Macy's "Bold New Chapter" strategy, which was announced in February 2024. The reorganization, the company revealed at the time, involved closing 150 stores nationwide within three years and a pivot to a greater focus on luxury sales.

Macy’s announced the closing of 66 of its stores nationwide, including five in South Florida, as part of its “Bold New Chapter” strategy. That strategy is hardly a secret as the New York retail giant said last year Macy’s would close up to 150 under-performing stores through 2026 in an effort to shore up flagging profits.

As part of its “A Bold New Chapter” plan, Macy’s will close 66 additional stores, including the one in Chester County, writes Kelly Tyko for Axios.

Macy’s has kicked off its plan of closing down several stores across the country. The retail giant previously announced the move in February 2024 while revealing their Bold New Chapter strategy. The closures of “underproductive” stores come as part of the plan.

Macy's Almeda location will close in March, marking the departure of the Almeda Mall's final anchor store and leaving 72 employees out of work.

The county purchased a 9-acre plot from Macy's for $6.5 million that currently holds one of the retailer's soon-to-close stores, Sameer Sidh, Baltimore County senior deputy administrative officer, confirmed Wednesday.
