Former Panthers quarterback Cam Newton recently said that he arrived in 2011 to a "locker room of losers." Former teammate Steve Smith Sr. and other Panthers from the 2010 team took exception. Newton addressed the situation on the latest episode of his Fourth and 1 podcast.

Cam Newton’s original comments came on another podcast with former Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, in which Newton said, “I went into a locker room of losers.”

Cam Newton may have upset his ex-Carolina Panthers teammates after his comments about joining losers when he was drafted to the team, and he isn't backing down. Days after making the statement, Newton doubled down and spoke about his remarks on his 4th and 1 podcast.

“For him to say that we was losers was a slap in the face,” Munnerlyn told The Athletic's Joseph Person. “This was a team who was two years removed from playing in the NFC divisional round against the Arizona Cardinals. We lost a couple pieces. We had Checkdown Jimmy Clausen at quarterback and we had a bad year. … For him to say losers was crazy."

Steve Smith Sr. isn’t the only former Panther who seems irked about Cam Newton’s “locker room of losers” label.

That was certainly the case for Newton when he entered the league in 2011. The previous year was a brutal slog for the Panthers, as they finished with a 2-14 record, which was bad enough to get John Fox fired as head coach.
