Mandatory evacuations were ordered in parts of two South Carolina counties on Tuesday due to the threat of rapidly expanding wildfires in the area. Here’s what to know.

The largest fires in Western North Carolina were the Deep Woods and Black Cove fires in Polk County, not far from the S.C. border, that forced evacuations and were burning a combined 6,000 acres with 0% containment as of Tuesday evening.

In S.C., there have been 27 wildfire incidents over the last 30 days. As of March 23, 78 wildfires have burned 2,424.8 acres in North Carolina. Here's how many fires remain active in both states and where they are located.
