The U.S. Senate voted on Monday to advance the nomination of former Representative Tulsi Gabbard to be director of national intelligence, continuing President Donald Trump's successful push to confirm even his most at-risk nominees for administration positions.

In a vote that fell mostly along party lines, the upper chamber voted to confirm Gabbard to oversee and coordinate the work of the 18 intelligence agencies.

Gabbard overcame initial skepticism from some Republican senators about her nomination, underscoring Trump's grip on the party.
