ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) - The First Alert Weather Team has declared Sunday, January 5, a First Alert Weather Day due to the elevated potential of damaging winds and a tornado or two.

Our main threats will be Damaging winds, Large Hail, as well as Tornadoes possible, especially in areas towards the Mississippi River.

The threats are Strong winds up to 60-70 mph, large hail up to golf ball size, and Tornados, which will likely be an issue in the afternoon.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for dangerously cold morning temperatures between Monday night and Thursday morning. Arctic air following Sunday and Monday's winter storm coupled with snow covered ground will make for some frigid mornings in Mid-Missouri through late week.

A winter storm is causing travel trouble, plus significant power outages now through Tuesday morning. Please prepare for bad travel conditions plus power outages that could linger into midweek. 2-4″ Snow fell last night for RVA but now we’ve changed to rain and freezing rain.
