The rise, fall, and resurgence of Seventies soft rock is chronicled in the new trailer for the upcoming film, 'Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary.'

A DOCKUMENTARY” on November 21 at Newport Classical’s Recital Hall. newportFILM is hosting this one-night-only screening, giving locals a sneak peek at the film that dives into the soft rock craze of the late ’70s and early ’80s.

We're talking of course about the music of people like Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan, Toto, Christopher Cross — pop songwriters at the intersection of soul, jazz and disco who were defiantly uncool for their day but are now recognized as the legends they are.

The HBO doc, punningly entitled Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary lands on November 29. It chronicles the rise of the genre in the 1970s and its unlikely comeback over the past decade, with additional profiles of key artists from the genre, such as McDonald, Steely Dan, Kenny Loggins and others.
