Storm Éowyn is gathering strength, supercharged by the Arctic blast that moved through the US, and has the potential to trigger power outages and travel disruptions across the UK later this week.

Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Mike Silverstone said: “The strongest gusts are likely to be felt across parts of Northern Ireland, northern England, north-western Wales and western Scotland, where exposed sites could get gusts in excess of 80mph, which has the potential to cause impacts for those in these areas.

With Storm Éowyn threatening to unleash severe gales forecasters have warned lives could be risk. Numerous weather warnings have been issued by the Met Office including an amber wind warning for parts of north Wales on Friday with gusts of up to 90mph (145km/h) in coastal areas.

The Met Office has issued an amber warning for wind for parts of Scotland as Storm Eowyn sweeps in. The first named storm of 2025, Eowyn is forecast to bring strong winds across most of the country, including up to 90mph in some areas.

WEATHER experts have issued a warning to residents as Storm Eowyn is set to sweep strong winds and rain across the UK. Essex Weather Centre is warning Storm Eowyn will bring wet and windy conditions to the area on Friday.

An amber weather warning is in place across most of north Wales as Storm Éowyn hits the country.

Multiple warnings have been issued across Northern Ireland from midnight on Thursday.
