Two days of fighting between Sudanese rivals have forced an estimated 10,000 families to flee a famine-hit displacement camp in the Darfur region, the UN migration agency said Wednesday.

The Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has stepped up its attacks on the  Zamzam refugee camp near el-Fasher, capital of the North Darfur state. On Friday, residents and medics said the RSF attacked the camp,

Fighters from Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have torched parts of Sudan’s largest refugee camp, firing indiscriminately at people, including women and children, according to open-source evidence and an eyewitness account.

The Zamzam camp in North Darfur has been hit by intense artillery shelling since late last year, but this is the first time the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been accused of sending in fighters. An eyewitness told the BBC the situation at the camp was "extremely catastrophic", and there were many casualties.
