The most famous wolf in Yellowstone National Park, collar number 907F, has died. Known as the “Queen of the Wolves” for her prolific lineage, 907F produced 10 litters of pups in 11 years — one of just six recorded wolves to reach that age since the animals were reintroduced to Yellowstone in 1995.

The long-lived, one-eyed wolf 907F died this Christmas after a fight with a rival wolf pack, Yellowstone researchers have confirmed.

She wasn’t killed by a hunter. She wasn’t killed by a car. She never got into any trouble. She got to live and die as a wild wolf.”

In an unfortunate incident reflecting nature’s war of survival, Yellowstone National Park has bid farewell to one of its most iconic inhabitants, Wolf 907F, affectionately known as the “Queen of the Wolves.

Record-breaking Wolf 907F, the alpha of the Junction Butte pack, died after a confrontation with a rival pack at Yellowstone River on Christmas Day.

While 907F and her pups were feeding on a bison carcass, members of the Rescue Creek pack invaded Junction Butte’s territory and attacked. 907F still survived for a few days before succumbing to her injuries.
