After 15 years of aborted attempts to make a movie about America's first prolific serial killer, it appears Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio are finally moving forward with an adaptation of Erik Larson's book The Devil in the White City.

Larson’s best-selling book The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America is set in Chicago at the end of the 19th century and focuses on World’s Fair architect Daniel Burnham and serial killer H.H. Holmes.

Because of this, Martin Scorsese relied on Robert De Niro for years. Their relationship was as perfect as crushing a tomato into a paste, mixing it with high-fructose corn syrup, and spreading it across assorted meat parts in a thin casing.

Assuming the film moves forward, Devil in the White City will mark DiCaprio's seventh feature film with Scorsese. They previously collaborated on Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Killers of the Flower Moon.

First published in 2004, “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic and Madness at the Fair That Changed America” tells the story of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair, following ambitious architect Daniel H. Burnham and the murders of serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes that took place during the event.
