Thousands of families marked the New Year in evacuation centers as Kanlaon Volcano continued to show heightened activity.

Even as 2024 came to an end, the activities at Kanlaon Volcano continued to pose a threat to residents in Negros Island with Alert Level 3 still in effect. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Wednesday that Kanlaon Volcano had eight ash emission events that lasted for 10 to 71 minutes.

Kanlaon Volcano had an increase in ash emission events, sulfur dioxide gas release, and volcanic earthquakes on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said on Tuesday.

Philvocs recorded the ash spewing activity of the Kanlaon Volcano between 8:01 a.m. to 8:43 a.m. and 8:56 a.m. to 10:07 a.m.

Sixteen volcanic earthquakes, including six volcanic tremors that lasted 49 to 84 minutes long, were recorded at the Kanlaon Volcano, PHIVOLCS said Sunday.
