Google Docs has announced a Docs add-on to let users insert AI-generated clipart directly into their documents. The new option uses the Google Gemini AI image generator and it can be accessed straight from the sidebar in Google Docs.

Google’s own AI tool, called Gemini alongside OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Copilot, has been able to generate images for a while now, but soon you’ll be able to use Gemini to create AI-generated images directly within Google Docs itself.

Google Workspace is rolling out a Gemini-powered AI image generator directly in Google Docs that lets you quickly whip up visuals for your writeups. Essentially, it's a clip art maker that follows in the footsteps of Microsoft’s AI-generated art feature in its Office products.

Earlier, users had the option to insert image in the docs from the photos and files on the device, now they can generate their own AI images.

Google has added a new "Create an Image" option in the Gemini sidebar for Docs. It is currently available for Workspace subscribers and will roll out to Gemini Advanced subscribers in coming weeks
