A historic 200-year-old painting of President George Washington stolen from a storage unit last year was recently recovered, according to the Englewood Police Department.

The painting was reported stolen from a storage facility in Englewood in January 2024. The FBI assisted Englewood PD in the search, and on Monday, it was recovered from someone who acquired it without knowing it was stolen.

On Jan. 22, 2024, Englewood Police received a report about a theft from a storage facility in the 3300 block of South Santa Fe Drive. An early 1800s painting of George Washington, the nation's first president, was among items taken. Police said the theft may have occurred nearly two weeks earlier on Jan. 10, 2024.
