This trail is NO JOKE! It’s steep, rocky, and wet. Basically, if you’re looking to climb up stairs for 2 hours and then down stairs for 2 hours… this would be for you. But don’t shy away from doing t… Full review by Shannon S

Not for the faint hearted, a lot of stairs and is more of a goat track than a formed track for most of it. Stunning views out to sea and beautiful forest with very large trees in the first few kms. … Full review by Nicjane15

My husband will be in Ketchikan in June. We will be on a cruise and have from 7 to 4 in Ketchikan. If we take a taxi straight to the trail head by eight, will we have enough time to do the hike, spefically to the second outlook. We are young and in decent shape.

It takes about 2 1/2 hours to get up to the second lookout and then an hour to come back down.
For those coming off a cruise ship, where did you pick up food for the hike? In town, or on the ship (I don't know if they offer it...)?

I would grab some fruit and snack type items from the ship and have a nice meal after the hike. There is so much terrific fresh seafood in town. This trail is decently long. The hike to the first scenic view is an hour w no breaks. It is another hour plus to the mountain top per other hikers we spoke with. I mention this because one group we met started on the trail at 8 am and they were likely finished by lunchtime. We didn't get to the trail until 1030am. Its a ways from the ship and we wanted to see the town first. Bring water. Ranger told us no bears in the area. Hope this helped.
Is there much to see in the first mile from the trail head? Any waterfalls etc. or are you just climbing through the trees, waiting for the first lookout point which I am told is 1 mile up?
A:
No waterfalls etc but definitely very interesting and beautiful to see the lush vegetation and hear all the birds as you climb.
